If you don't get a better suggestion, you might try going to Settings>Notifications>Game Center and turning it off.

Thank you but I did all that (signing out of Game Center and moving it into a 

folder called Junk) but Game Center still pops up when I try to open a game.
In iOS 7 I was able to disable Game Center.
