You can install itunes now if you don't have. You will need it on a regular computer for backups and all.
Go to http://appshopper.com/ and do a sort for Price Drops (upper right on my screen). Lots of respected programs and games at deep discount or Free for the next day or so. I noticed and mentioned they are several great art/drawing programs on sale... Sketchbook pro, PaintBook are some I saw. Look at various reviews for programs.
Neat thing, you don't have to have your iPad in hand to buy at these discounts. Download today and when you get your iPad there they are ready to install. I bought several programs on sale before my iPad arrived.
Also keep an eye on iTunes Gift card sales. Some drug stores, Target, etc. have them on sale for 10-20% discount. That's another way to get discounted Apps. A discounted card buying an on sale App. Magic.
And no, I don't own Apple stock.
