Re: [iPad] iPad addiction and withdrawal - why Apple's tablet dominatesAppleTell

When you know a big storm is coming --
load some content onto the iPad!

I don't see a problem except for over-dependence on the presence of
cloud-access.

Maybe such hardships as writer reported are a good reminder to have a backup
plan for off-line working; he appears to have a backup plan for power-outage
situation.

I don't have a generator (I live in a city condo apt) but I do have backup
batteries for emergency recharging, and if a storm is headed here I make
sure everything is charged up, synced, & content-loaded!

Re: [iPad] shameless brag (again!) about my son the author

I've one way or another gotten all the Breakers series books (in Kindle) +
the audio of Bk. 1.

BTW sometimes you run across a book that if you buy the physical version,
you can get the Kindle version free/reduced price, and after getting the
Kindle version you can get the audiobook at reduced price too!

I got one of those when the pb was a "bargain book"; it will make
a good gift for a certain relative (actually, two of them, I'll have to
flip a coin!).
Total cost was <50% more than "regular" price of just the Kindle edition
(let alone compared to the regular audiobook price).

I have no idea how/why/when these specials are cooked up; I just take
advantage of some of them. It does involve getting a fair amount of
alert/advice/daily-deals mail to hear about them.

Oh - one more thing - they're all available in paperback from Amazon.com
too, for those of you who prefer to hold a book in your hands instead of
getting the ebook version.

Congrats indeed!

also -- not only was Breakers free, having "bought" it I could also get the
audiobook at reduced price. I had previously bought the Kindle version of
Books 1-3 combo, but I went ahead & got #1 by itself to get the audiobook.

Not that I know when I'll get to all of this! but I like having a nice pile
of TBR/TBL to browse through! I'm a pick-by-mood reader.

Today our newspaper carried a story about our son, Edward W. Robertson, the
writer.

He broke 100,000 books sold in the Kindle store this year, was 16th on the
amazon.com Kindle store, and his series Breakers is out on audiobook format
at audible.com. The next books in the series will be out for audiobook in
February, 2014.

Sorry for the brag, but it's nice to have people to share exciting news
with!

Re: [iPad] shameless brag (again!) about my son the author

Right re Breakers and the audiobook.  You know, I read Breakers, could hardly put it down, actually, and that's not true for me of everything my son writes, but when I listened to the audiobook I actually liked it better.

Hearing it read brought new dimensions to the story and characters.

BTW, the prequel to Breakers, called Outcome, is free as well.

Re: [iPad] new iPad air

You speed sounds about right for basic DSL.  Most likely the router dropping the connection.  Try connecting somewhere else.

I got the new iPad Air(16 G wifi only)   I love it,    one problem.     I can't keep it connected to my wifi.     My iPad 2 I had no problem.

I do have DSL and it is slow.    3 download and o.71 upload.

Does anyone have any pointers for me.    My internet is the fastest I can get.

Do you think it is the iPad or the internet?    I would appreciate any help.
