[iPad] Perhaps Bluetooth keyboards don't last forever?

I've had my iPad Mini 2 and a Clamcase case/keyboard for ~4.5 years. Lately the Clamcase doesn't always stay paired with the iPad as consistently as it once did. I'll do something that requires keyboard input, and the onscreen keyboard comes up. It doesn't happen often enough to drive me crazy, and it's easy enough to pair the case with the keyboard again, but it's an annoyance. Is this just something that happens when a keyboard has a few years on it? Any other thoughts? If I do decide to get another keyboard, any recommendations? Thanks.
