Re: [iPad] a little cold water

I'm with where I was was that the Internet connection was like 2 MB and not strong enough for the 12 to 20 people that would be there so it was kind of a moot point plus in a few weeks or less I'll have all my music back and I can reload my iPhone in the last 256 would be what I would want when I get my iPhone 8S

I actually have wanted to buy an Apple Watch and update my MacBook Pro.  I even have the money to do it (luckily enough).  But I don't understand why on earth they would forgo things like the magsafe cord and not have at least one USB 3 port.  The new MacBook has four ports.  No one wants a dongle.  Why make them carry them around with you?

There are a number of third party dongles that insert into the USB-C ports and remain and then the charging cable clicks in magnetically.  So if you pull on it, it comes loose.

And I also agree with the writer that that Apple battery case is expensive and as someone once said "fugly".

I live in a world of my iPad, iPhone and Mac.  I have been really underwhelmed by the lack of innovation from the hardware perspective.  Their software ecosystem is great (though the new version of iOS is buggy - my iPad bricked the other day after upgrading).  But still, why make people buy dongles?  My not have iPhone screens like some of the android counterparts that are just plain better.

Just my thoughts.  Maybe it is time to sell my Apple stock (yet still keep my devices).

We've been together 21 years, six months after our first date at a restaurant in San Jose, CA. That first date, a safe luncheon, turned into a 5-hour face-to-face conversation. We've been together ever since, and conversation between us has always, always been one of the biggest parts of our relationship.

I don't care about the weather, nor the news, nor my daily exercise routine.

What I care about is the amazing "talk to text" capabilities: He talks into his iPhone, taps send, I get a little "snap" on my wrist, read his message, and simply respond.

Yes, the momentary lag time during a heated conversation can be a bit frustrating, but I can't even imagine the hell my life would be without it.

Any help finding an e-mail so I may thank them, personally, would be greatly appreciated. Yes, I suppose, I could just send a snail mail to "Tim Cook, c/o Apple Computers, 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino CA 95014", and it would wind its way to someone, eventually. I'd just like it to get there, immediately... not to mention it feels odd to praise "high tech" in sunch a low-tech way.

Re: [iPad] griping for profit

I agree. 512SSD and 16GB is for a typical user who plays with Facebook, email, etc? I paid NZ$3697 for my rMBP, the new one is NZ$4699, although it does have 16GB and not 8GB RAM. Add in the over priced adapters. Not quite a typical, basic user laptop IMHO.

Boring, maybe the wrong word. Ubiquitous, standard, normal. nothing exciting. All good phones, Apple or otherwise are all the same, they all do the same things, all work well. To me, they are now just a smartphone, what I do with it this year I did with it last year and will do the same next year

As previously stated I think the MacBook so for the average user and the average user does not need much only to use Facebook or email maybe to save some photos most people that I talk to at the cell phone company that had computers were very very basic users with very few needs I think the MacBooks appeal to them. And I disagree that smartphones  are boring. My iPhone is quite exciting because of what I can do and what are use it for and what it does

Im sure it is. However, what we are seeing are MacBooks being trimmed of capability, to which the end user now needs to carry adapters. Thinner, lighter, and cheaper to make? Smartphones are now boring, they all carry the same great functionality. Laptops, the same, so you want a laptop that is as functional as is possible, not one that drops functions in place of adapters. And drops some capability to manage two functions at the same time, unless we buy double adapters. Seems a step backward to me.

Maybe the R&D goes into things we don't see or haven't seen or don't understand how complex and costly they are. Just guessing.

Maybe. But I sense a spreading unease with Apple. The articles I sent here were in that vein. Another, today, questions how Apple is spending all the billions it's putting into R&D. For a company that makes just a few consumer products, ten billion dollars looks like overkill. Or waste. At the same time, it's far less percentage-wise than Facebook spends on R&D. So it's worries at both ends. That is to say, ten billion dollars feels like too much for Macs and iDevices and too little for anything genuinely ambitious.

My gripes with the Tim Cook Apple have been for quite a while now pretty much along the "picky" lines of those of the writer of the howtogeek article. It's not just he, and it's not just the Wall Street Journal and Marketwatch and an editorial writer or three. The American media really want to love Apple, but they're coming up empty. I'd not be at all surprised if Tim Cook leaves before long.
