Other manufacturers make metro tablets not just Microsoft.

Re: [iPad] OT: Windows 8

I tried Mac OS in 88. My first non dos experience. I've simply just stayed

That said. My kid has a windows phone. It's not a droid. It's really different. I like it. I'm not sure I'd like in on a desktop.

As far as intuitive. What's intuitive to me is foreign to you. I put my pants on left leg first. You don't. Meh. It's what it is. I don't like vanilla ice cream. Chocolate yea. Yummy.

Did msft blunder? Nah. Did they offend windows xp fans? Yea. And that's hilarious. The start bar was icky IMO. Good riddance.i hope windows 9 completes its death. Granted. I've only used windows maybe five times. But. C'mon. The start bar? START BAR??? Yea. It made sense but its dumb. Hierarchical lists aren't needed. I prefer pictures. Graphics.  Look. See. Not think in order. That's me.

This thread was fun to read.

I thought this was supposed to be easy, intuitive, and yes, fun to use!

I'm not a Windoz user, I'm a Mac... always been a Mac. When MacOS 10 initially came out at the turn of the century, there were many books, but the software was inherently intuitive.

Has Redmond made another blunder with this new OS that will make it unusable for the multitudes?

I have an Intel iMac (less than 30 days old), so I can run Windoz, and I'd kind of like to try it out, but not if it costs too much and is too hard to use.

I truly was hoping M$ finally hit one outta the park with this new OS! They have to do something to keep Apple and Linux on their toes. Ah, but maybe this goes back to the fact that if they make it too easy, they'll be no need for an IT department, and all the IT pros would be out looking for other jobs.?!.?!

We'll see what the future holds. DUH!

You should know better than to listen to Microsofts advertising!

Well said, I agree fully.

I don't fall into any fanboy camps well. I tell the hard truth about
both, we'll even Linux too.

I think Win 8 is mainly geared towards touch screens, but barring any
driver issues should be fine. I have it on my main secondary computer.
It works fine. I think adding the store will improve the overall
experience for most users because they will get access to additional
apps that they otherwise wouldn't know existed.

Takes about half hour to learn the basics of Win8, no big deal.

I have a Surface (RT) and a Samsung Slate 7 with Win8 Pro. And I also have a MBA and a MBP, along with a Dell and Lenovo PC. And obviously an iPad Retina but also a Acer and Samsung Android tablet. I really think MS hit a home run with Win8. Not many RT apps yet, but that is changing quickly.

I like the fact that MS doesn't put the crappy proprietary stuff on their devices like Apple does. May be fine if you stay in Apple's walled garden, but 90% of the world doesn't (FaceTime, iCloud, iMessage, etc).

Where iOS is a bit stale and limiting, Win8 is a breath of fresh air. Just being able to easily search for a document is worth it compared to the ipad (don't have to remember what app created it).  But I'm keeping the iPad until there is a DirecTV app.  I don't use it for much else.  Although the screen on the iPad is higher ppi, the Surface is much easier on the eyes, maybe due to its warmer display.  And, any USB device I plug into my Win8 Surface or Samsung Slate works great...printer, drive, mouse, keyboard, etc.

I'm not saying that Win8 is perfect. But it really is nice knowing I only need my Slate when I travel whereas I used to take a MBA or MBP (95% of time) and an iPad.

Re: [iPad] OT: Windows 8

Same for me in the extremely limited times Ive had to use it. But, oddly enough I had a doodle round last night on the "Try a MAC" button at apple.com, and watched three short videos. That shows me that its good and nice. Many of us geek types leave the manual as a last resort!  When and if I get a MAC, I will take the time to at least have a good overview, over everything on offer.

Does the same thing, but different

Actually, I have never found MacOS to be the least bit intuitive. I have to use it at work sometimes and do a lot of cussing. Of course I started in DOS then Windows. I guess it is what you learn. But MacOS intuitive? No not at all, not to me.
