It's his job to make positive statements. Since the statement is true for many, why shouldn't he say it? I don't think there are a whole lot of people naive enough to run out and buy such a pricey device without thinking about how it would work for them as a "laptop replacement."
As far as what makes it different and more useful for some is speed, screen size which allows easy switching between apps and the Pencil for starters. That could very well make it an even better "laptop replacement" for many users than the Air. In fact, I think that's why the term "Pro" fits it. I'd bet we'll be reading how "real life" people use it as time goes by and more apps develop. After all, not every laptop is suitable for ever type of "production." For example, it would be pretty difficult to develop a complex web page on an 11" screen. For that an iMac with a big screen would be the computer of choice (for me.). Why expect it to work any different for tablets?
Time will tell.

I agree, every user has a use case, its TC that makes these grand statements, ever since the Pro came out, but I'm yet to see what has changed with the Pro that makes these statements suddenly happen. Aside from screen size the same is possible with the iPad

Why should we stop saying what is true for us because it isn't true for you? Nobody said it's true for everyone. Obviously.
