Did you attempt to use your iPhones passcode on the iPad? Does your iPad have a fingerprint scanner? If so did you try that?

No I have passcode set on my iPhone but my small iPad never leaves the house so I made a point of not using one on that device. I only just set up Apple Pay on it to use on the Apple store that's what caused the problem they didn't warn me that I had to have a passcode to use Apple Pay
Sent from my iPhone 7+If you do not know the password you may be forced to reset it. Are you certain you can't recall setting it because it would have been something you did~KLM\\ "The one who follows the crowd will usually get no further than the crowd. It's the one is use for mail and reading the papers.
This morning i added a couple of charge cards to this iPad. Now, It won't let me in without a passcode which I didn't set up. How on earth do I fix this? I can't get into setting to disable apple pay.
