In NZ, same here, but it still exists. However, the telcos will sell you a new iPhone on 12 to 24 months interest free, and thats clearly via an Apple supported move. that helps to encourage upgrades. Plus we have cheap upgrades if you keep the phone in good condition and hand it over to get a new one for a pretty small charge, couple of hundred I believe. And off course extend the contract, whuich is a telco benefit

For me, the desire to upgrade frequently has decreased - and I’m talking about the iPhone now - diminished when the cell companies stopped subsidizing the price of the phone.

Maybe not the brand loyalty but the desire to upgrade as often. Prices used to be very similar year on year, now they went top a year or two back and are going up again. less gain every year from features, although to be fair, the best gain has been iOS and thats free. I upgraded EVERY year. But I still have my 6 Plus, no need, no point, too little to gain.I read that in various places across the internet, so it does seem to be a theme.

But it was said no one will buy <insert Apple product here> over and over again yet they tend to be very very wrong in most cases.
I was planning on a new iPad this year, but the Air 2 is still OK. I don't feel the Apple magic any more. Maybe it's Cook and maybe it's just that there's been nothing in the must-have category for a long time.
Maybe it’s Smith…
Brand loyalty and popularity depend on a thousand things. Sometimes they're blind.
