Right on target. Thanks. What happened, I discovered, was that my wi-fi connectivity had slipped from a legitimate node to a non-functional node. Perhaps the ISP's signal burped just long enough to disconnect. The non-functional node in this case is a Google Chromecast device that the iPad's search-for-wi-fi-connections software thinks is a legitimate node.
In this Rube Goldberg world we're living in, there are so many little things that can and do go wrong. And the more of this stuff we're "gifted" with, the more of those little traps there will be.
Thanks, again.

I can't claim understanding, but am wondering if there may have been a glitch in your connectivity? My mail messages containing large amounts of data will often spend some time in the out queue.

Just now, as happens once in a blue moon, a few of my outgoing mail messages have got stuck in the out queue. Several minutes before that, a number had gone out normally, to exactly the same address.
Would someone who understands these things be good enough to venture an educated guess on what's happening? And whether there's anything I can do to fix this?
TIA 😎
