Try this - it is free and worked on my windows laptop:

It is a little utility that allows your PC to share it's printer driver with the iPad.  Whenever you are connected to your home wi-fi network, your iPad can use your laptop to print.  This worked very reliably for me!  Just install and forget - it works seamlessly.  I haven't bought any print utilities at all.

Has anyone figured out how to use AirPrint and an existing shared printer on windows? I have a printer attached to a Windows 7 PC. That printer is shared and I can print on it from my laptop wifi. I cannot figure out how to do the same from my iPad 2. I see lots of software in the app store but they get horrible ratings.

Has anyone solved this reliably? I do not want to buy a bunch of $10 apps that don't work.
