A few places -- stores, groups. Either the mac-people were busy being
superior about how great mac was & how much better life would be with it
(but not helpful about windows-programs-file-archives such as years of
email) or they didn't know what I was talking about (the children at the
apple store or best buy) or they recommended something that wouldn't work
because of what I had -- or didn't have, such as an open network -- or what
I needed or thought about getting or could understand how to set-up/use.

The one thing that seemed to emerge was that a mac would be able to import
files from an external hd previously attached to a win-pc -- but nothing
much about how I could actually *use* (read, find, etc.) those files. I
never got as far as asking about how well MSOffice/Mac
compares to the windows versions, or what would be most comparable for any
win-s/w that I would need to replace in function for mac -- let alone how I
would transfer all the info from the pc version or would I have to re-enter
or design from scratch.

True, I didn't make a major project out of these inquiries -- but I didn't
get much in the way of encouraging information from what I did ask.

Anyway that ship has sailed, I got a new Win7 laptop. It always takes me a
while to make switchovers but I've got the process underway.
