I think I gave the wrong impression on this subject. Our computers and wireless router are protected with pass words etc. When I got my iPad it did not actually "hook up" automatically. I had to put in the usual data like p/w etc. I am thinking that when Rachel asked if it was normal for 3G to be active that the iPad was probably just searching for 3G (revolving 3G icon) to see if it could hook up, which it won't do until you have a plan.
