I agree with Judith, this is ridiculously stupid and Apple should fix it, the reality is that they probably won't. 
Pam, your idea is a good one and since I like to make lists to compare similar apps it's easy enough to do.

Sure there are ways around it but it seems to me it would be an easy fix to their search application. Other web sites and search applications take you back to your last search point.

In the APP store on my iPad I choose a category. It opens and tells me there are a bazillion apps and shows apps 1-12. I touch the right arrow and see 13-24. Repeat multiple times and I'm viewing 145-156. One of them interests me. I touch it and it opens, showing me all the details, screen shots, etc. I want to continue viewing apps so I touch the arrow at top left with the category name expecting to return to items 145-156 but nooooo, it returns to items 1-12 and I have to page forward through them all and if I look at another one it repeats. Is there any way to get back to the page you were on when you chose to look at an app or is this just a major stupidity that slipped through the cracks when they programmed these things?
