I have found it to be mostly adequate but I think the level of detail
depends on the area, and who made the maps for that area. (I'm
guessing they use US Government sources? Could be wrong, but that
seems most cost effective, since those are in public domain.). Some
of the areas in the mountains we were driving tnrough were fascinating
- detailed names of every peak we passed, rivers, creeks, trails,
tunnels, old timey log cabin schoolhouses, etc. and then suddenly you
could see that the map changed style a bit, and the detail would be a
bit more sparse. Still with mountain names and rivers and things, but
maybe without including the name of every overlook on the Blue Ridge
Parkway - that kind of thing. So, how well it works may very well
depend on the resources available for that area.
I think it was $6 or $7, definitely cheaper than any paper mapbook,
and it is still under active development, so I'm hopeful it will
continue to improve. Oh, and there is the free version that you can
try out to see if it works adequately for your needs. That version
has a limit on the amount of map information you can download, but it
is enough to see how it works.
