[MacBook] Superdrive! Can You Install Programs using Superdrive?

 

I just bought my wife a brand new MacbookAir, Superdrive, and MS Office 2011
for the Mac. After setting up preferences, I plugged in the new Superdrive,
and inserted the disk from Office 2011. Although the drive took the disk in,
after about 4 or 5 seconds, it ejected the disk.

I do not even see the Superdrive listed anywhere in Finder. Can you not
install Programs through the Superdrive? Is it not simply a CD/DVD Drive?
