Re: [iPad] Re: Yahoo completely changing yahoo groups, data will be lost

Couldn't have said it better.  Face book is a waste of time in my opinion.  I have better things to do with my spare time!

Considering all the hoo-hah in recent months about FBs privacy problems &
frequent (ever-more-confusing) changes, requiring users to do contstant
setting-checks & tinkering (& users still have trouble), I think they'd be
setting themselves up for a *HUGE* PR problem if they did went this way. I
don't do FB -- too much trouble to bird-dog the settings & keep up with
who-sees-what & so on. Too public. Too much of the attitude that "everyone
in the world should know everything about you."

I'm sure the people on, say, my cancer list, who are discussing things like
fertility problems, constipation, pathology, treatment options, reactions, &
so on, would be *thrilled* to find out that it wasn't just a group of
sympathetic fellow travelers who read about it but also their in-laws,
neighbors, kids' teacher, kids' friends, etc.

And I don't think my cancer-list friends would be all that interested in my
neighborhood arguments about budgets, dog parks, trash collection, etc. but
at least that's not *too* embarrassing.

Yahoo has all sorts of lists -- public, private, invitation-only, open vs.
restricted read/write access, & so on. If you lose that ability to restrict
your list to, say, "club members", you lose an important *internal* type of
communication. We'll just have to find something else. And if that
means....web-based forums, well, I guess I'll be saving a *WHOLE* lot of
time when I give up my e-list-hobby & just do absolutely necessary
communications.

Oh well.
Back to my library!
I may catch up (sorta) before I kick the bucket after all. :-)
