[MacBook] switching soon

If you are cash short, there is always neo-office a free program that functions like M$ Office. ........ My grandson mentioned neo-office and said he uses it.

iWork is a good package.  I use Pages { word like} for publishing our Mac User Group newsletter.  Much better than M$ word...........I've been thinking about getting iWork.

Some printers come with card software or it is avail from the manufactures website.  ....... I bought a few different card making programs for my pc but ended up using only Microsoft's Picture It.

If you are going to use public WiFi a couple of cautions.  Don't have sharing turned on & do not have passwords for financial institutions stored on your MBP.
.......... I don't know what's available but I won't be using dial up at all.   I've been overly cautious about financial stuff.  I don't do online banking and I use Quicken for checkbook balancing, don't even have the name of the bank there!   I like Quicken for reconciling my checkbook.   Does the MBP have something similar or is that in iWork?

For WiFi at home look at Apples AirPort or AirPort Extreme Base stations.  Both IMHO work great. Very easy to setup. ........ Something else to buy?

BTW Avery has a free business card software that does not require word or any word processing program.......... That's good to know!
Thanks very much for your advice and opinions, I do appreciate them!

> Good evening,I am going to make the switch to a mac. Ordered an MBP and expect it to arrive soon. Maybe Tuesday. And I'm a bit worried. I won't know what to do with it. And at first I won't have internet. I have a dial up connection now and will get wi fi after I get a bit familiar with the mac.I saw macupdate mentioned this evening and have been exploring there. I can see that I can get some free programs there and I assume this is considered a safe place to download from.I like to make greeting cards and have used Microsoft Picture It Publishing for years. Are there any good free or low cost programs for this? Are there other good places to find software? Thanks

> Karen, you will want to see about the wi-fi as soon as possible, or at the very least use the free wi-fi at the public library or a local coffee shop. Dial-up isn't going to help you with the Macbook Pro because it does not have a build-in modem.
