Good evening,I am going to make the switch to a mac. Ordered an MBP and expect it to arrive soon. Maybe Tuesday. And I'm a bit worried. I won't know what to do with it. And at first I won't have internet. I have a dial up connection now and will get wi fi after I get a bit familiar with the mac.I saw macupdate mentioned this evening and have been exploring there. I can see that I can get some free programs there and I assume this is considered a safe place to download from.I like to make greeting cards and have used Microsoft Picture It Publishing for years. Are there any good free or low cost programs for this? Are there other good places to find software? Thanks

Karen, you will want to see about the wi-fi as soon as possible, or at the very least use the free wi-fi at the public library or a local coffee shop. Dial-up isn't going to help you with the Macbook Pro because it does not have a build-in modem.

A greeting card program you might like is Hallmark Card Studio for Mac which is $39.99 plus shipping:

Your Macbook Pro will come with iPhoto, iTunes, Garage Band, Address Book, Mail and probably more which I can't remember. You can buy iWork at Amazon for 52.82. It contains Pages, Numbers and Keynote. These are comparable to Word, Excel and Powerpoint and will read those documents.

Reliable software and hardware reviews may be found at www.macworld.com. And yes, macupdate is a good place to download from.

Let us know if you have other questions.
