For word processing, spreadsheet, etc., I recommend NeoOffice:

In other words, it does what Micros**t Office does but without
dealing with M$. It can open Word, Excel, and Powerpoint files, and
save your documents in a wide range of formats.
NeoOffice is open source, and you can download it for free (although
they welcome donations).
