DISPLAY SCREEN OR TOUCH SCREEN is the odd problem to solve in the post-apple iphone world. while "valleylist" likes apple it's important to point out that the hp compaq 6730 is the world's top selling computer and the nokia 5800 is the top selling cell phone. the "valleylist" interactive television project with regis and kelly skipped twitter television [which went to the emmy's instead] and ended up concluding interactive technology is "too time consuming to consume". while regis liked the iphone videophone app facetime kelly fell asleep because in fact nothing was happening.

latest app to die for is chase bank's check quickdeposit by iphone. point shoot deposit.

geek squad experts at the local best buy say that the samsung - 20" widescreen lcd or the lg 20" widescreen lcd are the top selling display screens and the apple ipad the sony dash and certain cell phones are the leading touch screen products. touch screen looks like the future of computing based on the popularity of the iphone and ipad. "touch" serves a different purpose. it's a kind of input device. touch the screen and the computer receives an interactive response from the real person using the computer. apple is big on new input devices. first the "mouse" that helped launch the computer revolution by allowing people to point and click. then "touch" which allows people to interact with the computer display screen.

steve jobs inventor of the personal computer and fortune top executive of the decade is the "valleylist" avatar this week.

probably a good time to confess that i was in fact "mr. barbeque" on yahoo for a few weeks just before yahoo launched their new black and white main page. this week it's politically relevant for the black and white "valleylist" to skip version numbers 121 and 122. organic says things are looking very good with apple especially only there's law enforcement glitch. in with the phone company people or else.

the "hood" fantasy game has been declared definitively over with.

even diana ross tried to tell everybody it's the guy who just can't stop. the guy with the "momo" problem.

touch screen in the morning. then just walk away. the diana ross lyrics to "touch me in the morning" are not as maudlin as the movie mahogany. the touch screen has been around for a long time.

with billions of computer display screens sold there only 90 million touch phones predicted in 2009. the ipad is just breaking 4 million sold.

apple describes their touch technology as "led-backlit glossy widescreen multi-touch display with ips technology 1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi) fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating".

the longnow foundation is actually a people-centric organization. stewart brand likes people. people and big concepts that change the way the world works. concepts communicated through their live lecture series and articles in popular magazines and of course the internet and touch screen devices. their big "product" is the 10,000 year clock at over 60 feet tall it's a nearly perfect perpetual motion clock that should run flawlessly for the next 10,000 years. longnow plans to build the clock on a mountaintop in the sierra's with the objective of inspiring everybody to plan for the future. more than just scifi or a few scholarly journals the real future of the u.s.a. and the world is a political and economic reality. the united nations and the world economic council are probably the leading authorities on planning the future. in reality it's all based on trends in population growth food supply economic productivity and political progress.

in the meantime a group of people in the u.s.a. were so devoid of ideas they actually went ahead and tried to implement the future as described in asimov's foundation series a mutant "mule" rules the galaxy. at the last minute earth is destroyed. homeland security founder tom ridge tried to implement stephen king's the stand featuring the definitive war between good and evil. at the last minute earth is destroyed. that's not what stewart brand and the merry pranksters were thinking. their plan was to escape western civilization and get back to the garden [of eden]. these days it's tools for planning a better future for humanity.

all of this while waiting for sf city hall to solve the phone company legal case problem. whatever you do don't listen to the criminal perpetrators  a few good men put liberating "valleylist" on the front burner. sf hair salons wait empty for the republican economic plague to be over.

the "valleylist" longnow project already has inspired entrepreneurs like craig newmark's craigslistfoundation and bill gates the gates foundation taking the future seriously and including future planning in their agenda. the future is for everybody. too large even for the federal government. planning and implementing a healthy democratic future is a world wide problem. the u.s.a. should lead the world to a successful democratic capitalist future.

instead the u.s.a. is still stuck going in reverse.

conclusion. high school chums like dennis mcmanus have somehow made their way to the consulting business. the few exceptions include best friend bryan bassett lead guitarist for foghat. still on tour. got his start with wild cherry. "play that funky music (white boy)". still self-employed like millions world wide. facebook friend and "hood" consultant john mcshea friend dropped the bass guitar in favor of joining the "hood" revolution. he got more out of playing bass guitar. debate partner john hooper says stay away from the black people. too dangerous. high school debate rival dennis mcmanus says "i have lost track of most of the class of '72. ed yurcon attends christmas mass at sacred heart. john dileonardo was working for the attorney general's office. curt macchioni and his family live in san francisco. bump into pat tierney from time to time. pat's brother john tierney writes for the new york times and did the "hood" project only to find yet again nothing is happening.

everybody complains that pat is often missing after his run in with transcendental meditation.

most of this is double speak for the bush-cheney "hood" project. their problematic agenda is to help law enforcement stay on top of their criminal problems. instead they're all stuck going in reverse because of certain people in law enforcement. start with the lunaticcccccccccc tom ridge add a few black extremists like former speaker now retired politician willie "french toilette" brown and his retired political henchmen former sfpd chief earl "fajitagate" sanders fred "momo" lau heather "something ugly" fong and roy "weisner" meisner and you have a right wing revolt. still going on. bush-cheney people blame it all on the "game of the century". poor judgement. gross mismanagement. extortion. criminal negligence in high ranking officials. still going on. did the republicans finally come up with a way to stay in power for ever? send it back to the "event" and "food" business and watch their bizarre jihad finally wither and die. obama needs to be up to the task of finally canceling the "game" so america and the rest of the world can move on.

"touch" itself is such a revolutionary technology it could take decades to finally realize the impact on high tech. add touch and the all digital multi-media future is very different.

if you believe regis and kelly and the billions of people who don't want a computer then you conclude that the technology too difficult.

a real mass market success still eludes high tech.

add "touch" to high tech products world wide acceptance and it's a very different story.

what's needed is a total redesign. computers need to reach even more people. there's a lot of new computer customers waiting to buy something. the objective is to catch up with television's 94% viewership world wide.

that's personal computers as popular and easy to use as television.

all achieved in the lifetime of inventor steve jobs.
