[iPad] unknown cause of beeping

 

Yesterday I set up my ipad to use the AT&T cell system. Since then the ipad beeps several times an hour for reasons unknown to me.
BTW, the screen does not activate when it beeps.

Can I stop this beeping and what is the cause?
