Marigold has not been chipped. When my husband added her new Rabies tag a few weeks ago, she lost it and her ID tag.
Does anyone have the Platinum Pets smartphone tag with GPS? She keeps escaping from her harness and going for a run. I worry something might happen that she needs ID.

First of all, YouTube does not need my microphone if and when I upload a video.And I think you misunderstood me. I'm referring to apps that listen in on what you are saying. LOL!!! Same here. In fact, sitting on the bus on my way to make a hospital visit when I'd just put iOS7 on my iPad Mini, I set it up and even put the lock code in. Got off the bus and wanted to take a photo and had to first put the code in. Made the immediate decision to NOT put the code into my iPhone because this would completely take away my spontaneity with my camera! On the way home, sitting in the bus again, I removed the code from my Mini! <thrilled.gif>

I agree with jony Ives on the UI change. It helps remove the UI and lets me focus more on content. I really like the desktop being an app like it is supposed to be.

It would take a gigantic network of the shelters, Vets, rescues etc. Could be done, but....I registered my dog's chip with both Home Again and the AKC. I did report him missing once and got follow up calls from the local shelters. It's a good system and doesn't require an app.
I use AVID too. Mine are not 'Purebreds' they're mainly rescues. It would be sorta of neat though that if a vet in Glendale scanned one of my 'Lost dogs' that I'd get a message on my iDevice telling me...There are 2 major problems with chipping dogs (which we do for all of ours).Some are more slippery than others.The HomeAgain folks put an "anti-migration" cap on theirs, and generally they stay where you put them. The Avid chips don't have that, but generally don't migrate much. The AKC branded chips act like they're coated with teflon. We had a yearling male Borzoi who was acting chronically and mildly lame. We wanted to know if the vet thought it was a real orthopedic problem or just a big, heavyset dog who was growing fast. On the x-ray he took, the leg was fine, but, incidentally and unrelated to the lameness, you could see that the chip, which had been emplaced between his shoulder blades, had migrated to the chest wall next to the breastbone!The other problem is what is called the "microchip wars" -- you can actually google "microchip wars" to learn more.The ID chip is an extremely short-range RFID transponder. It doesn't broadcast constantly, but when "pinged" by an external detector, it converts that weak radio signal into energy and broadcasts its pre-programmed ID number.In Europe, chip frequencies are regulated, so the chip readers in use in Delft will be able to read a chip put in in Marseilles, or Stuttgart.In the US, every manufacturer decides for themselves what frequency to use, and their proprietary reader may or may not read any other brand. Further, some encrypt their chips, so even if a HomeAgain reader detects a response from an Avid chip, all it will display is "Avid chip", and not the actual ID.And again, chip readers are relatively expensive. The Avid people went around to every pound in the country (more or less), and GAVE the their readers -- as many as they needed. So Baltimore County Animal Control has an Avid reader for every truck that goes out to pick up dogs. But HomeAgain, or AKC, provide 1. Any more than that, the shelter has to buy (and you *know* they are chronically underfunded).That means a dog with an Avid chip can be picked up, ID'd, and returned immediately to its owner, and a fine assessed, without ever having to go all the way to the pound and fill up one of the limited number of kennels available.Because we are breeders, and run a boarding kennel, and do Borzoi rescue, we have bought both a HomeAgain reader and an AKC multi-format reader.
