For several years I had a visit both spring and fall from a guy who was walking from Florida to New England or visa versa. He was a chef and worked summers up north and winters in Florida and he kept all of his worldly goods in the biggest heaviest backpack I have ever seen. Since I sell outdoor clothing he would shop my end of the season sales and would spend a couple of days deciding what to get rid of and what item to buy because it had to fit the backpack.
It is always interesting to see people who have a different view of the world.

I met this guy once. In his 70s I'm sure. He was cooking potatoes on the side of the road next to his bicycle. This was about 100 miles from Seattle. He was biking to Seattle from LA. He shared with me his simple joys. He said his kids were too busy to fly down and see their dad. Him. So he was biking up to see them he said it was better that way. He got to see individual trees. Mailboxes. Got to experience the trip. He also said the best thing about buying potatoes for food is that every meal his food got less of a chore to carry and that made him happy. Ill always remember that guy. Short. Gray beard. Wiry. Huge smile. He inspired me to some degree. Take the road less traveled. Enjoy the day. Carpe diem.

Anyway. Yea. Nose in a book or iOS device totally yanks you out of reality. I'm thankful I get car sick so I tend to people watch instead of iPhone watch.

Also tell them that some on the iPad group have had much better luck with AT & T service. When I inadvertently ran up a large bill on my iPhone when I was in Canada the local AT & T reps gave me a telephone number to call and told me what to ask for ( a post dated international one month plan with an automatic cut off). It worked like they said.

It may get you nowhere, but I had a past experience with Amazon, when my Kindle 1 had issues with the screen, and I called them. Normally, from what I had been reading online, they would send a replacement device overnight. But they were out of the refurbished Kindle 1s when I called, and told me it would be a week before they could send me one. I emailed Amazon with the above strategy (I am on the KindleKorner Yahoo group), and they emailed me back that day to tell me that they had overnighted me a Kindle 2 to replace my Kindle 1.

I think that the customer support really preferred to have a good experience reported far and wide. Now that may just be Amazon. But it couldn't hurt to try with Verizon, as well. So far I haven't had any issues with Verizon's customer service, but I know that sometimes you get into a situation that standard protocol just isn't well set up to handle - and then it is so frustrating!

Lol, yes finding it is the key objective. But if you lose the iPad
then you also lose the "Find my iPad" app at the same time. If you
only download the app and never turn the feature on, then you won't
ever get the chance to get the iPad back. Just making sure it is clear
for the iPad noobs.

Well....

Tuesday, 9/18, I stumbled while walking one of the dogs (not the dog's fault), and fell forward. Damaged my R big toe somewhat, abraded my right knee, but took most of the impact on my right shoulder -- hard, direct, frontal impact to the joint from hitting the asphalt.

That was 4:30 PM. We hoped it was "just" dislocated. By eight hours later, when we got home again, we had learned otherwise. The shoulder joint (in humans) is formed by 3 bones -- the scapula ("shoulder blade"), which forms all of the socket of the joint, the clavicle ("collar bone") that braces the scapula in position, and the head of the humerus, the long bone of the upper arm.

I didn't damage the clavicle; I didn't damage the scapula. I didn't even "break" the humerus in any normal sense. I shattered the head of the humerus.

It's strange to see an xray showing a normal, healthy-looking humerus going up toward the joint, an then just ending. Ending in a collection of little spicules of bone that used to be the head of the humerus, the ball of the ball-and-socket shoulder joint.

So, Wednesday and Thursday I got my pre-surgical exams and testing, and Friday, the 21st, I got my surgery ("R shoulder hemi-arthroplasty"). That's half of a total shoulder replacement.

I did get to choose my own preferred surgeon, and anesthesiologist, which was nice.
Came home Sunday evening, and have begun a long, slow road of healing, learning new ways to do things (thankfully I'm left-handed), and rehabilitation.

I have a free app called guess can, which I use for wifi connectivity to my scanner. Try that.
