I, too, have a friend like that. Eighty-year-old chemist and technical translator. Never could get the hang of a PC. He's much better with a tablet, tho in a limited way.

Maybe its the brain. My step father knows a guy, he looks like the professor that was on TV ages and ages ago. Old, thin, straggly grey hair. Percy is extremely intelligent, designs engines, worked with McLaren Formula 1 back in the day, worked with Patty Wagstaff the pilot in air races and flying displays, he went to Oshkosh every year from NZ by invitation.
But, I have never met a person who could not comprehend using a PC as Percy is. He just cannot get it. Amazing

Maybe her refusal to think that way suggests that the average non-gamer, non-programmer never should have been urged to learn to think that way. Maybe tablets are the Aha! device most people have been waiting thirty years for. Rather than forcing her to crawl thru dark tunnels, fighting trolls and guessing magic words in order to write a note to her sister, just give her a piece of "paper" and a send button. Rather than forcing her to sit upright in front of a keyboard and a fixed-position screen, let her read and write sitting in a comfortable chair, or lying in bed or on the beach. Let her talk - don't make her type.
