My point is that, if you were watching a movie sourced from the iPad - whether you were watching it on the iPad or on the TV - freezing the TV would not stop the iPad from continuing to play the movie.
Muting the audio system would, of course, mute the sound, but then the movie is playing silently in the background while you are on the phone.
In the situation of a movie playing on the iPad, most people would want to freeze the movie if they were interrupted, as by a phone call.
